Here Are Some We’ve Helped, With Sponsor Support:

Flora

Flora, at age 13, was shocked to learn that her village elders had arranged a marriage with an older man in the village and that she was headed for FGM and marriage – likely as a second or third wife.
Her mother courageously contacted Pastor Peter and he brought Flora out of her home and found a school for her.
Pastor Peter’s frantic request for funds found a donor willing to pay for Flora’s schooling. Flora is still in secondary school and doing well.

Risiwa

We received an emergency request for Risiwa, 13,  from her mother. Risiwa’s father had arranged for her to be married immediately. She had 24 hours to raise funds to get her into school avoid a forced marriage to a wealthy man who is much older (at least in his 50’s). He had offered cows to Risiwa’s father.

It is likely that Risiwa would be at least a second wife (or third or worse…), of little value to anyone except to provide children. She would also be forced to undergo Female Genital Mutilation.
We needed $650 in 24 hours. Risiwa’s mother came to Pastor Peter in tears, begging for help. He put out a plea and asked for prayers.

Within 12 hours, we had more than $650 and were able to get Risiwa enrolled in school.
Because forced marriage and FGM are illegal in Kenya, the police were also notified and the father would have been arrested had he taken her out of school forcibly.

The extra money raised? God knew Risiwa’s needs. When she was enrolled in school, the doctor there found she had pneumonia. The extra funds paid her medical bill.
Risiwa does not yet have a sponsor so she will need help in December to remain in school.

Namadil

Namadil graduated from her high school at the top of her class with the goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. She escaped forced child marriage and Female Genital Mutilation and now had this amazing opportunity.

Even with top grades, Namadil would receive no financial help from scholarships or grants. But a US sponsor stepped up to finance Namadil’s education.

Namadil’s plan is to return to her community to help with health care needs. This is a wonderful commitment on her part and a great gift to her community.

Her sponsor has helped Namadil overcome poverty so that she can help her family and her community.

Clementina

Clementina, 17, is a second year student at Mgangasa Secondary School in Kenya. Due to lack of school funds, she was been set home right before the students’ exams which allow them to continue in school. She would have lost that opportunity unless she paid the school $200.
Clementina is an orphan living with her grandmother. She has been trying to finance her schooling through jobs such as doing others’ laundry. But that work doesn’t pay enough to cover her school fees.
A sponsor paid her overdue school fees, allowing Clementina to return to school. She still needs a full-time sponsor.

Grace

From her sponsor:

“Grace is an orphan child staying with her grandmother. Her story caught my eye as it is just her and her grandmother living with very limited resources. God drew me to her and I reached out to Peter to sponsor Grace.
“They live in a very small hut and sleep on the floor. I want to also help purchase them beds and do what I can to help improve their lives.

“Peter found out that the school she was attending was not the safest. So I was able to fund her to be transferred to a better school starting this term where Peter can better monitor her situation and she will be with other girls that we sponsor.

“It makes my heart so happy to be able to help girls have a better chance at life. We are beyond blessed in the United States and take so much for granted.”

Mary

Mary Edapal, 25, had completed all but one school term of her college education but couldn’t finish without financial help. Mary’s father died a few years ago so she and her mother were supporting the family which includes five other siblings.

The back-breaking farm work paid $4/day while the accountant degree would allow her to earn from $650-$1000/month.

A sponsor contributed the funds for Mary’s final semester of school and she will graduate with the ability to work at a very good job.
